Lesson n°15: Turning
The aim is to reposition the thumb on the string following the forefinger without releasing everything: this technique is the core of fingering for the harp.

We start for instance with the left hand, with 2 fingers positioned as in the lesson 8.

We play the thumb, and instead of folding it back on the other fingers, you reposition it on the string following the one of the forefinger (or any lower string), without releasing the 2nd finger.

Be careful to reposition the thumb high on the string.

Then you can reposition the 2nd and 3rd fingers again (for example) and continue the tune.

You can also "turn" with the 3rd and 4th fingers (here the 3rd), instead of the forefinger.

You may also turn up the strings. Resume initial position: left hand with 2 fingers.

You play the 2nd, then you reposition the 4th finger on the previous string.

Then you play the thumb, without releasing the 4th, then you reposition the other fingers on the requested strings to continue playing the tune. Of course, you can also practise this with the 2nd and 3rd fingers instead of the 4th. Be careful to keep the perpendicular angle between the thumb and the forefinger all along the exercise.
